SPORTS PERFORMANCE

"You can't hit the ball with your mind, but you can't hit the ball without your mind either." Joseph O'Connor

"I thought I would never get my swing back to what it was. Three sessions later and I swear my swing is even better than before."

"I've stopped throwing my racket and "pulling a McEnroe". I'm pretty calm on the court when I mess up. I'm enjoying the game again too."

"I knew a lot of the problem was in my head. You unravelled it expertly and I am very grateful. I'm playing better than ever and I feel a lot happier too."

I was over training and I felt dreadful. After our sessions, I've got things back under control and I'm feeling so much better."

"I haven't shouted at anyone since our session!"

"I am completely in the zone when I'm lifting weights now. I visualise the lift first and then it's as if my body knows what to do when I come to do it in reality."

Why it works

Athletes and sports teams at all levels employ the use of hypnotic techniques to get the best out of their sportsmen and women, whether or not they would describe them as "hypnotic". These techniques are employed to improve concentration and confidence and enhance emotional control, particularly during stressful moments in competition games.

The mental strength of an athlete or sports team is paramount to their success: if they lack the mental concentration or drive needed, they cannot be champions.  An athlete needs to be able to respond effectively to both external stimuli (such as an opponent, or the ball) and internal stimuli (feelings and emotions).

Hypnosis may not be able to give a non-athlete athletic ability but it amplifies the talent that already exists. Confidence and self belief are what set a great athlete apart from a good one. It is the difference between fighting back when things are not going to plan, and giving up; between taking responsibility in the face of adversity, and zoning out.

How it works

Where a poor performance has eroded confidence and ignited a negative cycle of stress (sometimes known as “the yips”), hypnosis will reset the mind to take those emotions of anger and frustration and channel them into a better performance. Visualisation is used to rehearse specific pressure points in the game so that the brain has an expectation of what is to come and has rehearsed how it should respond.

Different sports require different kinds of concentration: hypnosis can be used to improve the sustained concentration needed for distance running or swimming, as well as the short bursts of concentration needed for sports such as golf and shooting.

Hypnosis is also very effective for weight training which requires participants to get "in the zone" so that they can lift with perfect form to maximise gains and minimise the risk of injury.

Testimonials

"I can’t tell you how much of a difference you have made to my life. I appreciate it very much indeed."

"Just to say that T is completely better now and can swim with no issues so we are really happy."

"Back from the park where there were so many dogs and I totally handled it. It didn't really feel like a big deal."
